2013 Winners Announced

Aleksandra Debiczak (HND Photography) was highly commended for her images.

Neil Jarvie (HND Photography) is this year's winner.

Neil completed the 'prize' commission of photographing Sanjeev Kholi and has been given a prize sponsored by Deadly Digital, Glasgow.

Both photographer's work was very appreciated by our judge David Eustace who will be meeting them to discuss their photography in the coming weeks.















Reid Kerr College aims to raise the profile of the visual arts-photography both nationally and internationally.
This competition is designed to support and develop new photographers who are studying, or who have studied at Reid Kerr College's Centre for Photography. It also seeks to celebrate and showcase the creative talents of current and past students.
The theme is portraiture: this includes studio and location images. We want to see your take on portraiture. To enter submit three portrait images. These images should show your style and approach to portraiture.

To enter you must be or have been a student of the photography section at Reid Kerr College. Full and Part time student's are eligible.
The images will be short listed and judged by

Winners and Prizes:
The photography student judge the winner will be given a unique opportunity to work with David Eustace to complete a portrait session with David Hayman.

Calumet will also support this competition and will offer a Calumet voucher to the winner to purchase photography equipment/supplies.


Two images will also receive the title 'highly commended.


The winners will be announced at the Annual Lecture for The Academy of Creative Arts at Reid Kerr College to be held in Summer 2013

Three digital files JPEG format with a size of approx:

Competition Rules and Important Dates

The competition opens on Friday the 12th April 2013 and the closing date for entries is Friday 3rd May 2013.

Entrants must submit 3 portrait style digital photos only and can only enter once.
Entries will only be considered if submitted images have been resized as specified in the entry instructions.

Please keep your original image - if your image is short listed for a prize, we will need the high resolution file.

Entry is restricted to individuals who have been or are students of the photography section at Reid Kerr College.

By entering this competition you are giving Reid Kerr College the licence to use the image(s) for any Reid Kerr College publication or promotion - free usage rights. Where an image is used, the photographer will always be credited.

Copyright of all images submitted for this competition remains with the respective entrants.

All images submitted must be the work of the individual submitting them, the entrant must own the copyright and must not have been published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other photographic competition.

If your photograph features any person or people in the forefront of the picture so that they are instantly recognisable, they should be aware that they are being photographed and permission should be obtained from all involved (or their parent’s/guardian’s permission if under 16). If, however, it is a scenic shot or an action shot where the subject is part of a wider scene and/or is not clearly recognisable and in addition it is not feasible to obtain permission, the image will be accepted without permission.

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Reid Kerr College reserves the right at any time to cancel, modify or supersede the competition (including altering prizes) if, in their sole discretion, a competition is not capable of being conducted as specified.

Reid Kerr College reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal value in the event that circumstances beyond their control make this unavoidable.

All prizes are non transferable and there are no cash alternatives.Prizes do not include travel expenses & accommodation.

Entrants and winners attending any exhibition of the images must do so at their own expense.

Winners will be announced by the 1st June 2013

The judges’ decision is final; no correspondence will be entered into.
